Even those proposals, while all defensible, don’t get to the heart of the matter: is it a legitimate function of the federal government to forcibly prevent non-citizens from entering the country, and to expel them if they do unlawfully enter

Any proposition that no immigration enforcement & open borders will be
#US policy will require changing the#USConstitution;#Federal &#State laws, if enacted. Are we not allowed to ask for a socio-economic impact analysis of such fundamental changes? Who pays the price? Hmmm.

I doubt most demands to "abolish ICE" are backed by a set of coherent policy prescriptions -- one might as well ask the ecclesiastical views of the kid with the "Bong Hitz 4 Jesus" t-shirt.

If you want open borders tell us why? Tell us why that's a good idea next to a Narco state. But don't run around create loop holes and then deny that's what your final aim is.

Would it therefore not be defensible? It seems to me that immigration and custom's enforcement is one of the core responsibilities of a modern government. This shouldnt be controversial.

Laws can't exist without borders. If the left wants infinite immigration, maybe they should get it, so that they can see for themselves exactly how it collapses their civilization. If it goes that way, personally, I'll move (legally) somewhere that wants me and has borders.

i means we should be less concerned with where someone is from as we are with, are they being treated fairly by their employer, have they seen a doctor recently, can they afford to pay rent for a roof over their head. these concerns should "trump" any of
#trump's concerns. -
immigration enforcement should take place at the port, when ppl cross the boarder. once inside the 100 mi zone it should be focused on making sure BUSINESS and ENTERPRISE are doing their due diligence instead of pushing that off onto the tax payers.

Fairly open borders sounds good. The nation-state system is dying anyway.

Counter-argument: we need to abolish borders too.

Being that ICE didn’t exist before 2003, and DHS came into existence a year earlier, it shouldn’t be that hard to imagine a world without them.
