Maybe the decline in civility is real? Just yesterday Maxine Waters (D), on MSNBC, told her followers to continue to publicly harass those with whom they disagree.

Gee, I wonder who normalized this gross incivility
the name calling, the encouragement for folks to “punch ‘em in the face” and picking fights even with friends
Too bad we have to fight fire with fire, but being nice doesn’t work with bullies - 1 more reply

Both Social and Mainstream Media present the public with plethora of

I believe it's because that we have a president that lies, is void of morals, who constantly name calls, attacks the press, attacks law enforcement agencies, lacks common intelligence, has a sick preoccupation with his daughter and his whoremongering with porn stars.

True, but there could be other explanations. Most people on Twitter are refugees from the 2-party system and consume the news cynically and knowingly. This makes them targets for uncivility by the old guard (who also use Twitter, blind apparently that no one believes them.)

I perceive it by looking at the news, by the riots and beatings by the left and Antifa, the shout downs at University campuses, the assassination attempt of
@SteveScalise, by the scathing responses to my letters to local paper... Been years in the making. -
You know, they used to literally beat each other with canes over disagreements in Congress right? Aaron Burr killed Alexander Hamilton over a beef. The government literally shot strikers with machine guns. By those standards we're freaking saints.
