If you want to describe the current situation as concentration camps and incipient Nazism, then it was the previous Democratic administration which built up the infrastructure that made it all possible. That’s why the context is so necessary

If someone angrily denies that family separation is a constant of US immigration policy, or insists that it wasn’t Nazism in the past because a nicer guy presided over it, you can probably bet that they don’t believe their own rhetoric

It’s also true that many on the right, who don’t object to the underlying policy and in many cases strongly support it, are only saying “Obama did it too!” as a trollish deflection

Insofar as that’s a leftwing critique of the previous administration, the way it’s being used by many on the right is extremely insincere

People on the right generally don’t object to the underlying policy, so them saying “Obama did it too!” is just a trollish deflection

Can always count on Mike here to obfuscate and spread the blame around with some classic both-sides nonsense

it's a governmental failure of both Republicans & Democrats. Borders issue has become a first principle problem of high/low openness in policy. Dems are holding this back because they're simply refusing to meet Republican thesis in dialectical process.

Refusing to yield ground on practical policy & infusing media with symbolic hysteria to own Drumpf makes whatever sincerity there is an an open borders argument redundant & adds fuel to the fire of a difficult conversation that probably doesn't have a morally redeeming answer

The problem is with people who consider the Dems as being left wing. This is a right-wing, capitalist country being run by two right-wing parties. One party has blatantly moved much farther to the right.

Doesn't matter if it's a democratic or republican president that set this up. If human rights are being violated - or less extreme; if it is unsatisfactory living conditions - then it needs to be corrected. Who to blame is irrelevant and its a disservice to the people involved.
