Totally abolishing the Department of Homeland Security, the establishment of which was seen as creepily draconian but quickly became "normalized," seems like a good compromise solution to current immigration concerns

Meh. Probably, or you could put William Binney in charge of it! Julian Assange as Press Secretary! John Kyriacou or Edward Snowden for head of the CIA! https://www.commondreams.org/views/2018/03/16/i-went-prison-disclosing-cia-torture-gina-haspel-helped-cover-it … ❤️❤️❤️

You think it’s bureaucratic? The differences are way deeper. Some people actually want the law enforced, others think illegal immigration is a great screening mechanism for worthy citizens.

Establishing a cabinet department whose name pays homage to the Nazis was a harbinger of these draconian practices. No amount of social oppression by an organisation bearing such a name should come as a shock to anybody.

But what would you do about the law enforcement functions that were assimilated into DHS when it was created? Any parts of DHS that existed in another form prior to 2003 would need to be replaced.https://twitter.com/mtracey/status/1008535568765071370 …
