While it should be obvious that all presidents meet and flatter dictators, Trump/Kim meeting was different because of the intended result: to reduce conflict. Conversely, meeting the Saudi Crown Prince was condemnable because it resulted in increased conflict (arms sales, Yemen)

Not every meeting needs to "reduce conflict". In Saudi case, a) not a dictator, b) an important US ally & counterweight vs Iran, c) Saudi obviously has issues we don't like also - mixed record as ally, terror support, radicalism etc but an important relationship and oil

The intended result was to flatter Trump's ego. The unintended result may be a lessening of conflict.

Don’t you ever get bored of the amateur Trump psychoanalysis. It was done all the time on the right of Obama and was just as boring then

Watching Trump get excited about poster board pictures of weapons that we sold the prince was beyond the pale.

At least we used to PRETEND to care about human rights, even while installing Pinochet. Maybe pretending is better, maybe not. I dunno.

The only problem is that Trump escalated conflict. It is as if you keep on praising someone who threatens to beat his wife and when he says he won’t, you praise him.
