It’s also a “shame” that these cops spend their time accosting 20-year-olds on the beach for the heinous crime of possessing beerhttps://twitter.com/phillydotcom/status/1000824302663499778 …

UPDATE: #Wildwood Mayor Ernie Troiano Jr. said the incident where a woman was punched by a police officer was a "shame." He added that police would soon release body camera footage that shows the woman insulting and spitting on officers. Video: https://trib.al/3Eq7S1S  pic.twitter.com/s2aXhBObmk

After incidents like these there’s never enough emphasis on what caused the police encounter to begin in the first place. NJ shore towns hire absurd numbers of seasonal police to trawl for petty offenses, leading to unnecessary encounters, some % of which inevitably escalate

So this ridiculous event -- a police-initiated brawl on the beach over beer? Really? -- should be seen primarily as a failure of municipal policy, rather than as an individual behavioral failure by the parties involved

Of course the officer throwing punches needs to be held accountable, but the bigger question is why was he even there to begin with

That’s reportedly what she said to them, justifiably, which then lead to a utterly avoidable brawl. The cops probably got so upset because they knew she had a point

They told her they were going to just let it go. But this half-wit started insulting and spitting on them. Then resisted arrest by kicking and fighting.

Huge problem in NJ. Shore towns employ extra police to bring in money by enacting & aggressively enforcing municipal ordinances. Tickets are hundreds of $ & assess court costs. Municipal judges/prosecutors have interest in outcomes & therefore aren't neutral arbiters of law.

Policing and LE in general in the US must be around 90% revenue collection and useless job creation. Manufacturers left for more exploitative pastures and they can't all work McD's or Walmart. From a social pov, what else to do with them?http://thefreethoughtproject.com/fbi-80-police-officers-overweight/ …
