I created a document that is a crowdsourced collection of articles and resources about the state of housing in Charlottesville, how we got here, and some possible solutions. Link to document (also threaded below).

  3. I’m glad to see the request for a big increase in health insurance spending, not because I’m pleased that healthcare costs are going up, but because they underbudgeted last year, so hopefully this will cover that gap.

  4. Based on these numbers, it looks like the new 6-8th grade middle school will have around 900 students.

I could definitely see people floating this kind of thing in Charlottesville. Actually I think I’ve floated it.

One of my favorite David Sedaris anecdotes is when he’s in the Paris subway and hears a group of Americans loudly debating whether Houston or Paris is a better city. In terms of land use, most people in Charlottesville prefer Houston.

Here is picture of Tonsler with the class of 1910. My neighbor’s mother is one of the graduates here.

A little bit of history we should all know: Charlottesville’s greatest educator is Benjamin Tonsler - a Black man born a slave who taught generations of Black students.

(Btw, Dunlora is built on land formerly owned by enslaved people who had gained their freedom)

Excellent article by , highlighting the selfish narrowmindedness of Dunlora residents and the opportunities increased density provides.

A neighborhood full of recently built half million dollar homes is fully mobilized against other people being able to have homes nearby.

I’m imaging a big event where Travis Pastrana shoots off a giant ramp on his motorcycle and as he flies over downtown explosives go off and the Landmark Hotel is demolished. What a day that would be.

I realize that there is probably historic value to those homes, but sometimes you can’t have it both ways.
