Day 2 of analysis Twitter Information Operation (IO) dataset. So far:
- Having actual dataset unlike Facebook is great for context and understanding operators. Hopefully Facebook will level up. cc @ngleicher
- The absence of dataset from India is so far **VERY** surprising
As if India does not have troll farms on Twitter? Just a quick look through the comments on the @IDF is enough to cast a doubt. The definition of what constitutes an IO is interesting too. Religious hate crimes have been surging under Modi, and social media would get a pass?
This IMHO highlights the importance of diversity & internationality within teams fighting CIBs, IOs, trolls etc to avoid the typical "Silicon Valley Echochamber" - Unfortunately, this won't happen anytime soon.
Although, the data-set is great. Only ~31K users have been flagged so far. Given that Twitter has 100M+ daily users. It seems very low.pic.twitter.com/R0Baao1BH8
Although, if we compare with Facebook they closed: - 6086 Facebook accounts - 5443 Facebook pages - 1258 Instagram accounts In comparison, that's still higher than Facebook.
A look at the seething cesspool of antisemitism on Twitter, much of it programmatic, much of it from troll farms, would be interesting as well — especially since it has driven murderous attacks here in the US. When can I count on your focus on that, as opposed to IDF?
That would be very interesting as well too. I am not sure I have antisemitism data, but for antizionism there are a lot in the Iranian dataset.
