    Many of the big programming problems I’ve faced were solved while I wasn’t sitting at my computer

    As a boss, I think a great way to increase productivity is to push them to take breaks. There's no more toxic thinking than "if you can lean, you can clean." Take a walk, veg out on the couch for a while, whatever it takes to shake the snowglobe and solve an intractable problem

    It always feels like a bit of a shame when an app maker “updates” their icon for Big Sur by taking the previous icon, slapping it on a white squircle, and calling it a day (the alternative being to rethink the expression of original icon within the constraints of the squircle)

    McDonald's made $4.7 billion in profit last year. It gave shareholders $4.6 billion through dividends and stock buybacks. It paid its CEO $11 million despite missing performance targets, and paid the median worker $9,100. And yet they are closing stores to avoid raising pay.

    Before you start yelling "my quesadilla is going to cost more" Chipotle's CEO was supposed to make $14 million in 2020. But because the pandemic was hard, they adjusted his bonus goals and paid him $38M - 2,898x median employee pay. And they raised prices

    Chipotle, looking to attract workers, said on Monday it was increasing its wages to an average of $15 an hour by the end of June.
