The President of the SOA remains in place. The author will rewrite her book (like the little mind-wipe device in Men in Black it will be as if the racism did not happen). The reviewers and authors who spoke up and were bullied are the ones left worrying about THEIR careers.

I haven't read the book so I feel somewhat uncomfortable making comments on it but from what I've seen so far, (extracts on social media) no I'm not OK with that. I think it should be withdrawn.

The fact that it is being rewritten speaks volumes about the fact that it is indefensible as a whole, no matter whether parts are fine. It is not a small matter to pull a published book and rewrite. In my opinion it would not be done if there was any way to defend it.

We're not OK with this. Nothing about this is OK. At best this is embarrassing, and at worst it is utterly destructive and abhorrent. This tweet will remain pinned to the top of our page for longer, it seems..https://twitter.com/KenilworthBook/status/1425169428065538049?s=19 …

I hope this whole process of rewriting will reflect what the author has learned, in terms of her use of racist language, and to incorporate this process into the book itself for others to see and to learn from.

They are not ready as an industry to deal with how white supremacy has damaged them.

If you take this to its logical conclusion, and think of all the other books that would lend themselves to this sort of rewrite?! Not ok.
