Today, advertisers are competing with an unlimited stream of content. If you don't want your ad to "blind" the viewer, it has to be able to compete with the entertainment it's interrupting. To overcome banner blindness, the focus of every ad should be ENTERTAINMENT.

Why is this important? Because digital advertising is becoming increasingly competitive. Banner ads are about as effective as highway billboards, and engagement across all ad formats has worsened. This has changed the way that businesses promote themselves.

At the same time, we ignore content in certain forms on the page, even if it's legitimate information. - Ad placement at the top of the page or the right rail - Ad-like visuals, like animations - Proximity of any content to other ads or promotions We block it all out.

In 1997, the term "Banner Blindness" was coined to describe people's tendency to ignore web page elements that look like ads. It didn't even matter if it was an ad or not. Years of navigating the internet trained people to block out anything that resembled an ad unconsciously.

Selective attention is your brain's process of focusing on a limited number of sensory inputs at any given time. You unconsciously blind yourself to elements in your environment to apply greater focus to a few things.

The human brain has evolved to process over 11 million bits of info per second. But, our conscious mind can only handle about 40-50 bits/sec. This selective attention is what allows us to navigate the world efficiently. But it's also an advertiser's worst enemy. Here's why 🧵

If you're not solving a top-5 problem in someone's head, you'll always be swimming upstream for sales. Whether you're B2B, B2C, or P2P, selling a solution is always the fastest way to close a deal.

She writes for speed readers. No one reads every single word of everything, that's why she optimizes the copy for speed readers. ・ Use 5th-grade-level writing ・ Bold important words or traits ・ Speak in benefits, not value props You want the nuggets to be remembered.

She writes the page like a puzzle. When you build a puzzle, you work on a few pieces or chunks at a time before bringing it all together. Similarly, she attacks the page's value-add sections together, before focusing on the sale-driving sections. Both parts stay consistent.

She seeks to understand the traffic source. Not knowing where the traffic is coming from is like driving in the dark with no headlights. This helps her understand: ・ How to write about the product ・ Why they should care ・ What the angle should be ・ What the page goal is

She always needs an angle. Let's say you sell a healthier version of a bagel... now, what's the angle? Writing without an angle is boring. Here are angle examples: ・ The perfect breakfast for kids ・ The athlete-approved bagel ・ The after-school snack mom is proud to serve

My sister has become one of the best copywriters I know. The landing pages she writes convert around 8-10% on average. Here are 4 observations I've made about how she writes the pages 👇

We create content. Even though it's mainly me doing it, creating content around landing pages has helped establish HOOX. Not many companies in B2B create "good" content, so even my content alone is enough to set us apart. & we just hired a FT writer/marketer.

Used proper marketing materials. Instead of screen sharing on Zoom & talking, here's what our biz dev person uses: ・ Landing page (pre-call) ・ Deck (on the call) ・ One-pager (follow-up) All of this is organized through: ・ Hubspot ・ Stripe ・ Zoom

The best "marketing" is SUPPORTING the community you're trying to turn into your customers. Create useful content for your future customers to consume and see results from. You should run ads to get more eyeballs on WHAT you're doing, it shouldn't be the only thing you do.

Here are 5 questions every ad & landing page should answer: 1. What are you selling? 2. Why should I care? 3. How fast can I get it? 4. How will it make my life better? 5. How does this compare to other products on the market? If they don't answer all 5, don't publish it.
