(Also, yes, I haven't told my spell correct that videogames is one word. It helps to remind me that we live in an imperfect world)

Bottom point is the most important IMO. People aren't mad that games are political, they're mad that no one will represent their toxic views. Bragging about riding the fence is only going to please people who screech about ethnic/LGBT/gender inclusivity like it's poison.

Pac man wasn't about a yellow mouth eating ghosts, it was actually about watergate and the consumption of information and don't even get me started on super mario!

I keep seeing the politics in stories thing pop up but I have no idea the original conflict that started this. Can you film win whee this keeps getting reignited?

Any time a media product that fanboys consider their preferred form of escapism dares to include plot elements, characters, or themes that could be construed as consciously progressive, those fanboys whine about creators "making things political."

Politics in games is usually bad when they try and make it relevant. "There's a difference between something like metal gear which explores the plight of the soldier, and some shitty trash that's just "haha orange man bad/good"."
@ToothpasteSquid told me that, and he's right. -
The plight of the soldier is so far down the list of things Metal Gear Solid is about. The series is like very explicitly against American military intervention

What's to argue? Isabelle is a dog. She needs more meat than Joker. Case closed.
