I'll kick off - it was SIGGRAPH 1993, in SIGKIDS. I sat down in front of something that billed itself as a 'hypertext system'. I clicked around a bit - and yes it was a hypertext system. Not a lot there, I thought. I went away unimpressed?

I got on the web using Athena (MIT pre-Mosaic browser) ... with a jury-rigged SLIP on Windows. My reaction? I was born too late for the PC revolution ... this won't be as big as that, but it' definitely SOMETHING and I need to get in it. I went to work for Delphi Internet.

Wow what a blast from the not so distant past. Delphi forums were great :)

Memories of muddling through linux commands for the first time just to get connected, then using Lynx and Gopher just to get around. Paying per kilobyte of data on a 1200/300b modem over a long distance call; and loving every moment until Netscape changed my. world. HBD WWW!

For me it wasn't until 1995 with some PowerMacs in the library running Mosaic. My friend got warned by the librarians not to break someone's site when they saw him using 'view source'

I was halfway through studying a degree in graphic design, my brother, an IT geek before it was cool, introduced me to this new world. My graphic design pivoted to digital design and the wonders of UI. Then specifically web design. Never looked back.

Before it was cool? You mean it's cool now? Wait, am I cool? Why hasn't anyone told me?
