Very sadly it seems that Tidbinbilla, Canberra’s amazing nature reserve in the mountains, is burning today. I hear koalas have been evacuated to ANU.

I am a Wuhan girl living in Hong Kong. Right now, all my close family is under lock-down back in my hometown, at the epicenter of this epidemic.

Guy that admits to not knowing about viral genomics continues to commentate on genomics despite high profile error in past few days. No, it doesn't seem to mutate rather fast.

From the title, I thought this article was going to be rubbish. But it's actually a pretty good summary of the current climate model results.

From legendary scientist James Hansen: land vs ocean warming over the last 140 years. Oceans absorb more than 90% of the warming: they are a gargantuan heat (and carbon) store. Some of that heat (and carbon) will be delivered back to the atmosphere in centuries to come.

Every single person who says Australia is too small to act is saying that every country smaller should also not act. That locks in the worst warming. Which locks in worse bushfires. More deaths. More choking. More pain. It is a nauseating, obscene argument.

While was busy arguing whether "business as usual" fossil fuel burning will yield 3, 4, or 5C warming, we learned that 1C warming appears more than adequate to insure enough West Antarctic melt for 10+ feet of additional sea level rise:

„Climate impacts do not scale in a straight line. The impacts of 2° are not just twice as bad as 1°, they are many times worse. In my view, not meeting the Paris targets would mean a world, tough even for humans to live in.“ — Professor Will Steffen Source:

Audrey Zibelman, Damien Sanford and all those in control rooms across the NEM did an extraordinary job yesterday. They kept the power system running in the face of extreme weather, toppling tx towers and a lack of reserves. True grit and ingenuity!

per capita showing that countries are not all equally guilty of causing climate change. Shows us where maximum effort is required to reduce emissions as soon as possible. Remember to keep to 1.5˚C we need every single one of these bars to be zero by 2050.

An important thread about panic, that it’s not typical or inevitable, how it’s fueled, and why it’s dangerous. Take a moment to read this 👇🏼
