I know I keep bringing this up, but the two-plus-month run of Knives Out feels like a throwback to the 90s and early 00s, when a film could stick around the box office for a while, without hitting number one but accruing impressive numbers all the same.

Seems fitting that the three highest-grossing original films of 2019 are, in order, Us, Knives Out, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. All are films written and directed by artists who have established a distinctive creative voice that's as big a selling point as any IP.

Anyway, Knives Out comes out digitally this Friday to buy, and I plan on watching it over and over again starting this weekend.

I love the film and very happy it did so well but why do you think it made so money compared to other original type films in the past few years like Game Night, Widows, Logan Lucky or The Nice Guys. Is it just based on release dates or does some of the star power have an impact

Star Wars ran for 13 months in cinemas in the CBD here; Life of Brian, IIRC, for at least a year (albeit in a smaller cinema); The Gods Must Be Crazy for more than six months in a cinema in an inner suburb. And then there's Rocky Horror...
