Astonishingly stupid idea. Corporation tax is a tax on investment and workers' wages. Business rates are a tax on *landlords*, not businesses (). The government would be mad to do this – it would be a giveaway to commercial landowners.

As pro-BBC as much as any sensible person But it should not be a criminal offence to have a television, without a licence Morally, conceptually, socially wrong Whatever the merits of the BBC, nothing justifies the criminalization of having a television without a licence

That Diane Abbot take on a man being bullied and inappropriate workplace behaviour is actually really shocking. If a Tory minister said that we’d be asking for them to resign.

Indeed Diane - faced with an abusive boss, we often advise members to deploy military self-defence tactics. What a ridiculous comment from an experienced MP, demonstrating blind political partisanship and a complete failure to understand how power is abused in the workplace.

It remains shocking that Bercow has never been held accountable for his flagrant and repeated bullying of staff. Particularly disgraceful that the supposed party of workers has repeatedly backed him for partisan political reasons.

After three years denouncing Brexit as an "English nationalist revolution", now Fintan O'Toole says that "there can be no progressive government in Ireland without Sinn Fein."

We need a new word for the former special advisor - Nick Timothy, James Schneider - who takes their party to ruin and then confidently takes to the airwaves to lecture others about what to do

This is a terrible take. It's not a hallowed tradition, but a relatively recent reform, which has, on the whole, made life harder for the government, but it won't do that if opposition MPs don't participate.

This is either: a) someone not understanding how the system works b) someone knowing but choosing to posture c) someone deliberately choosing to give up their ability to influence who chairs the committees Not sure which is worse.

The thing I am most vexed by this year is that came up with “RLB is how the left spells IDS” and I did not. Her every utterance makes it ever clearer he was right.

Sorry to be boring but the Tories lost the digital war both paid and organic. We've done the analysis and Labour had a larger share of voice on every platform - people were not buying the message.

Went to a Burns' Night dinner last night and everyone was asked to bring an appropriate poem. After the haggis was finished, I read this Monty Python curiosity by the late, great Terry Jones.

Bercow whingeing that it's 'increasingly obvious that the Govt has no intention of honouring the centuries-old convention' that ex-speakers should be handed a peerage. But, as he liked to remind us in his pomp: 'If we were guided only by precedent, nothing would ever change...'

I’ve discovered that I occupy an apparently unique niche among the people who talk about Labour stuff on Twitter, as someone who both a) really likes Jess Phillips but b) doesn’t think she’d have been a good choice to be leader of the Labour Party.
