Vangelis died. I have no words for how much his music meant for me, particularly the soundtrack. I'm just gutted. RIP maestro.

While designing that network, Baran essentially created what we now know as packet switching. Bolstered by research done by Kleinrock and later by Davies, packet switching ended up as a core technology of the ARPANET. The latter was never designed to withstand nuclear blasts.

Yet another (otherwise good) article gets it wrong. No, the ARPANET was not designed to be decentralized so it could keep running during a nuclear strike. That was Paul Baran's network designed for RAND and USAF, which never got built.

I wrote a piece for exploring why so many career fields-journalism, health, and yes, academia--are driven by the features of social media culture we associate with influencers: metrics, expertise, engagement.

I faced vicious homophobia as a kid. If kids today don't have to face it I'm going to be livid.

Opinion | Doxxing and harassment, which I do not support, are what all my shitlib critics here should face after Elon Musk takes control of Twitter and goes through all the personal information in their accounts.

Seriously? Nobody needs this. NOBODY. How about writing something about the bravery and trailblazing nature of 's work instead of just amplifying a personal branding campaign that's already out of control?

I think Mr. Musk pines for the SABC, the CBC, just like many of us Europeans living in the U.S. pine for the public service media system of our native countries. Twitter is not a PSM. What could PBS and NPR have done with $44bn?

Okay, so it's only semiautonomous. Humans pilot the Coco robots remotely.

I've been writing articles about these being on their way for years. But this is the first time I've seen an actual autonomous delivery robot, chugging its way up my street, minding its own business.

this seems like a worthy time to point out that Habermas's argument on the public sphere is not that publicness somehow triumphs and makes everything great, but that publicness is incredibly fragile, including in relation to the forces of capital.

Musk said a few days ago that he wants the Twitter algo to be open source so everyone can see what's going on. I hope he makes that happen AND includes the targeting algo for ads. That would be a silver lining.

Like I said, this man has no idea what free speech means. Free speech is also the right not to speak. Free speech is whatever restrictions on speech a community democratically decides to put in place. Whereto now? Can we make a massive Discord server for Twitter dissidents?

If this thing finally falls apart, thanks to the community of people I've gotten to know and talk with and learn from. Truly grateful I got to know you.
