I know! I've read so much on this subject and never heard what happened after before! I'm shocked, but not surprised I guess.

There's a pretty excellent documentary on this. The majority of those so held died in prison.
Notably, East Germany under the Soviets freed those convicted under par. 175 a few years after the war.
