One comment we heard a few times on the tornado survey today “I/we heard the warnings and knew bad weather was coming, but tornadoes never hit this area.” Like the Ian survey, previous personal experience guided most actions followed by the “I can’t believe this happened” #houwx

The last two events I have worked. These resulted in 2 tornadoes from 1 storm. That's it. Left image is December 14th. Right image is tonight. Rotation track heaven and just nothing. Clearly the insane shear did what was expected. Someone needs to do a Mobile Bay field project.

Coastal flooding is ramping up across northern Mobile Bay at this hour. Avoid the Causeway over the bay for the next few hours.

Flooding is getting crazy on highway 98 under the causeway, getting out of here and heading for some supercells now. @NWSMobile #wx

🌳 Strong winds will impact driving, blow down trees/power lines, & cause power outages overnight. 💜 Secure outdoor items, including Mardi Gras decorations. Get inside a sturdy structure away from windows tonight. Your vehicle is NOT a safe place, especially around trees.
Be Prepared for Power Outages. Strong winds can knock out power. Check your emergency kit to make sure it has everything you need.
Don't underestimate strong wind! The safest place is inside, in an interior room, and away from windows. Prepared your home by trimming trees, repairing loose siding and shutters, and securing loose items.
Store or secure loose items before strong winds! Ensure your patio furniture, sports equipment, trash cans, trampolines, lightweight potted plants, and holiday decorations are secure. The image provided on the right side of this infographic shows a depiction of lawn furniture tossed into someone else's yard after strong winds.
RVs are at risk from strong winds! RVs and trailers/campers are NOT a safe shelter from strong winds. Wind gusts can turn them over whether parked or in motion. Check the forecast before you go and have a way to receive weather warnings.

⚠️ IMPORTANT NOTE: If tall trees surround your home, consider sleeping/sheltering away from exterior walls and windows tonight. 🌬️ Wet soils + strong winds (ahead of the storms) = possibility of downed trees and power lines overnight.
An illustration showing a 2-story home with a car parked outside the house and a large tree next to the house. The text next to the graphic states "You are not safe here" and points to the car and upstairs portion of the house. During high winds tree damage is expected. Stay safe by avoiding exterior rooms and vehicles while the winds are strong.

If you have Mardi Gras decorations in your lawn or on your porch, you need to secure them or move them NOW...otherwise, they'll end up flying into the Florida panhandle tonight. High Wind Warnings are no joke, y'all 💜💚💛

Life-saving information should be accessed by ALL. ✊🏽 I have so much admiration for our colleagues that go the extra mile to ensure that. Racism and bigotry have no home in our enterprise and in our mission to serve the public.

Spent much of my shift tonight translating winter weather graphics into Spanish. Well the racist comments and bigotry got so bad I had to make this PSA about how we won’t tolerate any of that on our page. Just sad. So much hate 😡 #nws #peoplesuck #inwx

Tomorrow's environment near the coast has plenty of SigTor analogs. This specific hodograph shape actually appears frequently in coastal states, and can be potent even in QLCSs (example attached). Also some analogs from the hodograph field guide I will never actually finish, lol
