This is a good tweet that gives me a lot to think about! Honestly, it makes me wonder if maybe the mistake was fish bait's existence in the first place - I can't speak to what the developer's idea of fun is, but it feels like a concession to ppl who want to grind those fishies...

This is a weird one, I garuntee Nintendo specifically considered all of the options in this video and made an educated decision to not include them. Most of them add complexity and room for user error. But crafting fishbait is so damn tedious it really blows my mind.

I think that friction is caused by the motivations created by certain gameplay systems, and how easy it is to act on those motivations. It’s definitely a balancing act. The fish bait seems to be for getting fish from a certain area, more than for getting many fish.

The fish bait exists so you don't have to run around and spawn fish to catch them! I feel like it's kind of a non-diegetic solution for people who want to get what they want... faster.
