The PROOF team announced a major update today: Moonbirds are now “in-chain”! This has also allowed us to offer an exclusive background for Moonbirds who also have a PROOF Collective Pass in their wallet. But what exactly does that mean?🧵:

Moonbirds will be purely “in-chain”, which means no external dependencies—the art is generated exclusively by smart contracts. Each bird is now assembled by one contract from image layers stored elsewhere, all on chain.

To do this we put a lot of work into data compression, storing all layers for just 0.37ETH! The processing engine we developed takes any (binary) data, compresses it, and puts it into smart contracts ready to put on chain.

As this is incredibly useful for anyone looking to store data on-chain, we’ve packaged it up and made it open source for the community to use:

Next quirk: most in-/on-chain NFTs are stored as SVGs, which isn’t (yet) recognized by Twitter Blue’s hex feature. So we made bitmaps instead! This means in-chain Moonbirds will be **fully* verifiable by Twitter, without additional NFTs, extra images, or extra steps.

And because each layer is stored on the blockchain, we can now explore special backgrounds that are activated according to what else is in the Moonbird’s wallet. Today, we’re starting with a PROOF Collective exclusive:

But wait, there’s more! Each Moonbird will only go in-chain with YOUR help. And to do that, you'll have to set up an account on the newly refreshed proof.xyz—the home for all things PROOF. Think of this as the foundations of Codename "Highrise", if you will...

Is there a github for the in-chain functionality? Anyone doing anything with it other than images? Sounds? Videos?
