Really amused by my failed attempt to get Google to stop calling me a Poet. "We’ve reviewed your feedback, and unfortunately, the change you want to make to Amy Berkowitz isn’t supported at the moment."

"You know what would be cool? If humans had tails. But not short tails like a cheetah tail—a nice long tail." This is a conversation I heard when I walked into a Goodwill. It was a slow night and three employees were having this conversation, very earnestly.

And Jeannie Vanasco! Her most recent book is an extraordinary and unusual memoir about rape—she actually got her rapist to agree to be interviewed, and with the help of friends, she analyzes the transcripts to try to make sense of what happened.

I've been a fan of Sini's since I saw her incredible documentary The Punk Singer, about Kathleen Hanna's music career and experience with late-stage Lyme disease. Now she's working on a documentary about late-stage Lyme called So Sick.

I am so inspired by both of these people and the work they've made that despite how much I hang out and/or email with them and keep my cool I am still breathlessly fan-girling on the inside.

I'm excited to be having conversations with two people I really admire next month!! I'll be talking to Sini Anderson at NYU's Center for Disability studies on 2/24 and talking with Jeannie Vanasco at East City Bookshop in DC on 2/27. Links in comments.

I love that photographed a chronically ill artist in a medical setting for their COVER! Represention of our bodies as they are is necessary not only for the radical self love needed to get the medical care we need, it also breaks down ableist ideas about our lives. 💯

Odyshape: how do you pronounce it, and what, if anything, does it mean? I welcome any theories.

Sincerely believe flossing is cool! I wish Eileen Myles' essay on flossing was online so I could link to it...

I think I'm making up for how bad I am about washing the dishes in real life.

Selections: “What?” I turned off the faucet and suddenly the room was quiet. / Julie started typing and then stopped. I felt numb. I went to the sink to wash the rest of the dishes; the hot water was soothing. / I washed the dishes and made my bed. Was he going to stay over?

Something I'm noticing in revision is that there are a lot of dishes-washing scenes in my novel...

After a screening of clips from So Sick and a reading from Tender Points, Anderson & Berkowitz will use their work as a starting point for a broader conversation about invisible illness, medical sexism, making art on crip time, & speaking truth to power as an unreliable narrator.
