Do you know what breaks my heart every time? Meeting a single mother working full time who is homeless because she can’t afford to pay rent in Los Angeles earning $15.50 an hour. More than 70% of single mothers are rent burdened—the housing crisis is a women’s issue.
11 dead in Monterey Park
12 wounded in Baton Rouge
7 dead in Half Moon Bay
2 students dead in Des Moines
300 shot EVERY SINGLE DAY
Every time you vote for a lawmaker who opposes gun safety, you’re voting for policies that make it more likely your loved one will be slaughtered.
My kid’s school has a lockdown drill scheduled for this week. After back to back mass shootings in our state. We are traumatizing our children. We have failed them.
As a mom of a school aged child, I didn’t know what to say anymore these past 24 hours. In the wake of another mass shooting in CA today, again I struggle to find the words. My heart goes out to all the victims and their families. Congress hasn’t done enough. #GunControlNow
knows firsthand what it means to struggle. He is one of the most compassionate &dedicated members of Congress who believes in the American promise and I know that he will fight to make sure everyone has access to life changing opportunities.
Growing up poor, all I had was the American dream. It kept me going: as a kid sleeping on the floor, a student scrubbing toilets, a Marine losing brothers in Iraq.
Today, too many Arizonans see their dream slipping away. I’m running for the U.S. Senate to win it back for you!
Bouncing into 48!
Today is my birthday, Lunar New Year, and the Year of the Rabbit (same as my birth year) - a symbol of peace and prosperity. Wishing us all a little more peace and prosperity this year. 🧡
Americans have woken up too many times to the news of yet another mass shooting. Now it’s happening again.
Gun violence has devastated our communities and families. 1/2
Today we should be celebrating the 50th anniversary of #RoeVWade. Instead, women are dying because they can’t access life-saving reproductive care. We’re being forced to have unwanted pregnancies. And we’re fighting to do all we can here in CA to protect and expand care.
Today marks 22 years since I arrived in the US. I grew up in a town so small in communist Hungary that it wasn’t even marked on a map. Lack of freedom is not a distant memory to me—it’s because of my past that I embrace American values and continue to fight for our democracy.

Dear women holding the microphone—remember that your visibility comes with responsibility.
Use your voice.
Amplify the cause.
Share the stage.
Hear those who are unheard.

Yes, we need more #momsinoffice who know firsthand what families are up against each day. Parents, who had to choose between a paycheck or time with a newborn. We can bring our lived experience to the policy making table and pass bills that will put working families first. ⬇️
I ran for office as a mom in tennis shoes fighting to make child care work for working families. Now, there are so many more moms, dads, kids, educators, & state legislators in tennis shoes by my side.
I am fired up because I know together, we will get this done.
Honored to be one of those moms and state legislators...in tennis shoes...by your side fighting to make childcare work for familes, businesses and our littlest learners! TY for including me today!

May we be inspired to take action today because we cannot accept that women, single mothers, children, people with disabilities and people of color are more likely to live in poverty in our country.
We cannot accept that our policy choices allow the most vulnerable members of our society to suffer from illness and hunger while income and wealth inequality in the USA remain significantly higher than in any other developed nation.
On April 4, 1967 exactly one year before he died, King called for a “radical revolution of values” in which “we must rapidly begin the shift from a thing-oriented society to a person-oriented society.”
On this day, we must recommit to our radical revolution of values. #MLKDay
Testified in front of Congress ✔️ Spoke on the Assembly Floor ✔️ Scariest thing ever...speaking to my kid's class about being a legislator and the #crownact
We’re marking #10YearsOfMoms and we want to hear from you! Tell us what inspired you to join our movement and some of your favorite moments from the past ten years. Tag us
Just a reminder… the House chamber is hardly a space designed for families—until 2011, there weren’t even women’s restrooms on the House floor—and parents are having to make do.
Instagram and Facebook introduced more limits on targeting teens with ads. However these changes stop short of turning off ads altogether for teens.
Congress needs to take action to protect our privacy and our children.
We need policy change to even the playing field for women/mothers/caretakers, especially for working moms, moms of littles, and BIPOC caretakers. Our democracy depends on our voices being heard + it’s not happening now. I’m never giving up that fight bc our future depends on it.
Wow. I gave birth 2 weeks before Election Day in 2020, became Mayor of Palm Springs with a 6 week old newborn, and got asked to run for state assembly with a 6 month old, launching my campaign when my baby was 7 months old.
I am so excited that Congresswoman Katie Porter is running for Senate in 2024. I hope you will join in support to help kickstart this movement. She is a single mom, a voice for working parents & children and we need her in Senate to amplify the issues that matter to us the most.
California needs a warrior in the Senate—to stand up to special interests, fight the dangerous imbalance in our economy, and hold so-called leaders like Mitch McConnell accountable for rigging our democracy.
Today, I'm proud to announce my candidacy for the U.S. Senate in 2024.

here⬇️teaching me the ropes about standing up to authoritarianism through laughter. “Being an authoritarian leader requires one thing: fear. If you take this away from them, they have nothing. If you make fun of fear, you can’t be afraid any more.”
and serving as a full-time volunteer for a decade, I’m stepping back from my leadership role at the end of 2023. It's been the honor of a lifetime to lead this organization and fight for gun safety while empowering women to lead.
2/5 “We Americans of today—all of us—we are characters in this living book of democracy. But we are also its author. It falls upon us now to say whether the chapters that are to come will tell a story of retreat or a story of continued advance.”
took a moment to celebrate my victory too. So thankful for his support from the start and his work to make a difference for our kids, educators, and schools. I cannot wait to work together to support quality public education for all.👊🏼
I'm honored to officially become the President Pro Tempore of the Senate today. It's not lost on me the significance of what it means to be the first woman to serve in this role. This is another sign that slowly but surely, Congress is looking more like America.
