i’m so sick of the idea that there’s moral purity in being unable or unwilling to wrangle capitalism into something that serves your goals. if you don’t like the current incentive structure make a better one

Today, AI systems can create stunning art & beat humans at chess & Go. But they can't do things a 3-year-old can do. Why? We're launching & open sourcing our research environment, Avalon, so as a community we can answer these questions:

mood is so much more malleable than ppl think and anyone that says it isn't is usually clinging to their emotions as their identity and/or a tool to control others

i increasingly think motivational purity is a scam and the majority of the time "doing something for all the right reasons" usually only exists as a reframe in retrospect

i really do think that the earlier you realize how remarkably rare it is to come across ppl you have both connection and compatibility with, the happier you'll be

i do think one of the greatest joys in life is collecting little stories and experiences out in the world to bring back to discuss and dissect with your person

it’s funny how there’s power in being public up until a certain point of popularity, after which the power shifts to lie in being private. it’s distorted from the outside: choosing to be private makes others q whether they should do the same, despite not having done the first bit

you can’t just outsource all your opinions to a tiny pool of niche bloggers, repackage them as original research, and think no one will notice. my job is literally to have read the Blogs

this also means that as long as you're ok being alone a lot, there's still so many interesting insights up for grabs by just dot-connecting across disciplines. the patterns often appear obvious to you but insane to others — prob bc you're one of the few ppl with that perspective

i think we underappreciate the strength of character required of a person to pick breadth over depth. all the incentives push you to join a tribe and take on a pre-packaged identity — choosing not to is almost an act of rebellion

it's actually insane that we call literally anything that quickly makes you feel good "addictive." unless you want to always be a victim of the world, blaming it for your lack of self-discipline seems like a losing strategy long-term

ppl do not talk enough abt how huge the competitive advantage of having a voice that ppl actually want to listen to is, esp if your job is basically idea-pusher

for ppl who find it painful to ask for favors: pls remember that building trust requires risky micro-movements be made and reciprocated by all parties in order to progress. so by not asking for what you need, you're literally limiting how much trust ppl can possibly have in you
