I visit a Starbucks stand in the cinema before seeing “Joker”, there’s no one else there. Despite this, the boy at the counter takes my name & writes it on the cup. This level of mechanisation—doubtless he would be chastised for not always taking a name—is the joke.
Have you ever tried telling them “You don’t need my name. Just say the drink and I’ll know”? It screws with their programming. They stand there unaware what to do next, then ask again for your name.
