I’m back in the decayed, depressed, decrepit and degraded northern English town where I originally hail from and this thread I wrote last year still rings in my ears. I walk round this place almost in tears. Decline on every corner and every human face.https://twitter.com/moldbugman/status/1063390729685356544 …

It's everywhere. Even in the South. A place unlike what you described is the exception, rather than the rule, even in wealthier parts of the country. I think in Greater London its just easier to ignore because there is some money and ambition still floating about here and there.

Yes, you’re probably right. The exception is Outer Hebridean islands, Cotswolds villages and London’s Belgravia. Money allows one to ignore the rot... but the rot is spreading... upwards, downwards, everywhere.

London is a a jigsaw of wealth. Some gorgeous areas surrounded by utter shiteholes. I'm from a suburb that is considered 'affluent'. The high street there consistently has three or four empty store fronts. Lord knows what the 'poor' towns are like.

I lived in affluent Clapham for three years. “Yummy” mummies pushing expensive baby strollers down Northcote Road. 5 minutes away in Clapham Junction I once saw two black homeless tramps sucking each other off at 2pm on a Sunday afternoon.
