I don't think traveling to Pakistan is extremely weird, the mountains are beautiful and it's quite safe. It would also make the point that it's not Muslims per se he has a problem with, but with Muslim invaders. So there might also have been that political consideration.
Bang on. It’s not that unusual to visit these places, especially if you have a curious mind. I know tons of normies who have visited Pakistan and North Korea. Hell, the place I felt most radicalised was Bhutan. One week there was enough to go full Unabomber and sink the internet.
