A good half, maybe more, of rightwing/Nrx Twitter would have been on the left even just 20 yrs ago. Some people like to be contrarian for contrarianism’s sake. Now the left is firmly in charge, but up until the 90s many here would have been on the left arguing against Christians.
When you say, "would have been on the left 20 years ago", are you allowing for people who got older and wiser? Or allowing for the fact that the left 20 years ago was filled with sane people who just didn't foresee what they were unleashing?
Neither. I’m saying that many who fight against and question leftist authority in 2019 would have been the ones probably campaigning for civil rights in the 60s just cos some are naturally always contrarian. They’ll always naturally trend to the rebel position. I know I do.

Nrx not so much, most of the alt right, yes. Socjus Idpol really was the thing that moved them; they’re still leftists at heart, (America is a communist country, after all) they are just reacting to being told that men/whites do not get a seat at the democrat table
