I have read this book, I think what we have is more like both at the same time, but then, Amusing Ourselves to Death is what, 30 years old? The Huxleyan world turns into the Orwellian world when it fails to develop eugenics and runs out of human capital.

Amusing Ourselves to Death was pre-net, Postman feared the effect of just TV, imagine how frightened he would have been about the internet. I have old copies of pre-TV Punch magazine where Malcolm Muggeridge had the same fears about radio. It can always get unimaginably worse.
