That’s not what defunding the police means. It means shifting funding from what is currently the police to social worker and other programs that don’t roll up to every problem thinking that force and guns are the most likely solution.https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/jun/05/defunding-the-police-us-what-does-it-mean …

That’s not what the word “defund” means. To defund is to stop paying for something, entirely.

Even if we were to fully defund the police (which may be the best avenue), we would replace it with alternative programs that do a better job, one of which would be a much smaller and properly trained group authorized to use force in those rare cases that need it.

Oh yes, getting rid of police will totally stop crime from happening. It's magic!

Has anyone suggested that would happen? No, didn't think so. We need something BETTER than the police (social services, community investment, and yes, a specialized group that can still use force, but not abuse their power).

... What would you call that "specialized" group that can *checks tweet* still use force?

You know what they will call it, the Stasi, and they won’t be used to find criminals but as thought police against anyone with dares questions their world view.

Oh it doesn’t? This new “police” force of left wing politicians won’t be called the Stasi....
