CDEs are especially powerful in complex environments at large companies. At GitHub we built our own complex setup script to provision developer laptops, always aiming to get new employees committing to main on their first day. It still didn't work 100%. CDEs make it easy.

With CDEs, the code you run, and the libraries you use, run isolated from your local machine, which means enhanced security, and a much safer execution environment for testing out untrusted libraries. Not to mention installing things via bash scripts! 😬

Never again stress over updating your operating system, only to spend the next three days figuring out why iconv won't link properly anymore or spend hours tracking down why that one header file can't be found. Less time on StackOverflow means more time creating awesome stuff.

CDEs are like perfectly configured, high powered developer laptops that you can use and discard as easily as sticky notes. One perfect laptop for every project you work on, so you can say goodbye to dependency collision issues between unrelated projects.

Fundamentally, the digital universe has two superpowers: to enhance communication & reduce scarcity. At GitHub we leveraged the former to create a collaboration platform around code. Gitpod leverages the latter to create infinite custom-tailored dev environments in the cloud.

Very cool to see Sprig launch today, it's the evolution of the game console that I sponsored as my reverse birthday present this year, and has become so much more awesome in the last five months! Love the stuff coming out of !

Even though we release new major versions every few months, we work hard to make it easy to upgrade and spread the pain out, instead of saving it all up for once a year MEGA-DROPS. Glad to see it's paying off!
Quote Tweet
Big thank you shoutout to @RedwoodJS for always making it smooth to upgrade versions. So much can change between version bumps but it's always easy because of two key things: * thorough docs * codemods I can typically upgrade @courselift in about 5 minutes 🤙

For the first time, GitHub has surpassed $1 billion in ARR. This achievement is a direct testament to the ingenuity and dedication of our Hubbers, and the longstanding trust held in us by the developer community and our customers. And we know this is just our beginning.(1/3)
