Wow! Now our paper is on the cover page of ! Legend: "Our brain constantly attempts to predict the next value in a sequence of stimuli presented to it via our senses. /

For those of you who didn’t live through the invasion of Iraq, here is what is about to happen: 1. There will be a MASSIVE propaganda push (by Republicans) to frame this act of war as a moral necessity and to act like anyone who opposes it is working for “the enemy.”

I was right about Vietnam. I was right about Iraq. I will do everything in my power to prevent a war with Iran. I apologize to no one.

When we talk about responsibility and ethical concerns with autonomous AI-driven bots, how is it different from a K-9 unit? What I see is a lethal autonomous entity with a trained black-box cognitive system, whose behavior is known only statistically. What are the regulations?

Excited to share our paper! Adaptation changes the spectral properties of chaotic dynamics in random neural networks. This increases network correlation time and improves transmission of slow signals.

  9. /It generates special neural activity when an incoming value differs from what it expected and hence incites a surprise. This surprise can be decoded from recorded EEG signals."

  12. Three highlights from our results are as follows: 1. The P300 and MMN components are equally informative about the surprise of stimuli. 2. Perception of surprise is independent of the sensory modality. 3. All rare stimuli are not necessarily surprising stimuli.

  13. Rather than usual encoding models, a decoding model was developed for the model-based analysis of subjective surprise in oddball tasks for the first time.

Super happy that our model of sequence processing developed with Florent Meyniel and (and available ) is used by et al. in a recent paper

Blacked-out poster at from lab, submitted because the author was prevented from coming to the USA. The travel ban is an awful policy, and brutally unfair to the people affected, especially trainees. Glad this poster was here as a reminder.

"Has science gone too far?" As long as it is humans asking this, the answer is no. But if your fridge says that, it might have a point.
