BIG NEWS! We’ve signed a deal to write a second book for . It will argue the human case for considerably fewer automobiles in cities, by sharing our observations of “low car” Delft through the lenses of equity, well-being, and social cohesion. Watch for it in 2021.

One of the things I like most about living in the Netherlands is the bicycle culture. This is one of many rows of bicycle parking at Delft station. 3 minutes after stepping out of the train I had a rental bike from the train company for < 4€ per day

Just your average Irish cycle tourists (read: advocates) checking out the newly car-free Market St in San Francisco - the calm, quiet & safe atmosphere was such a breath of fresh air; great job 🙌🏼

To Americans, there is nothing quite as shocking as seeing a parking space for sale at a price that would cover the cost of building it.

How the stopped the endless noise polluting din of drivers honking. An absolutely joyous masterclass in behaviour change. The movement should look and learn.

Imagine cycling becomes a mainstream mobility mode. Will we live in slower cities where mobility is a valuable activity in itself or will bikes materialise the dream of efficiency and speed that the car failed to fulfil? See our new paper with

“A lot of Dutch cities made mistakes. In , they paved over canals. So their status as a cycling nation wasn’t always a given. It took a lot of hard work, a certain degree of stubbornness, and forward-thinking politicians to get where they are.”

I recognize that many people haven't thought through the psychology of car ads. But think about this. Car crashes kill about 1.25 million people worldwide a year and injure or disable tens of millions more. Maybe ads celebrating fast reckless driving is just a shitty idea?

We’ll look back on the evolution of car design and wonder why we forgot about the folks on the other side of the windshield*

The first interview for our new book is locked, and it’s with old friend and fellow Canadian , who will discuss how cities impact our mental health. We really appreciate him agreeing to hop on a train and visit us in Delft... Not that he needed much convincing! 😉

99 smartphones are transported in a handcart to generate virtual traffic jam in Google Maps. Through this activity, it is possible to turn a green street red which has an impact in the physical world by navigating cars on another route!

When our teenage daughter enters the regular stream of Dutch high school in September, this will be her daily commute. As if on cue, is currently upgrading the door-zone painted bike lane with a 3 metre-wide cycle track. The work of a cycling city is never done.
