It's Ape-ril, which means it's #ApeAwarenessMonth! The perfect time to highlight these animals often lumped in with monkeys and other primate cousins. At the #MNZoo, you can visit white-cheeked gibbons - one of eleven species of gibbon, also known as lesser apes.

The Laysan teal duck has one of the smallest geographical ranges of any duck. Originally endemic to Hawai'i, there are now only a couple of small populations outside of Laysan due to successful relocation efforts to Midway and Kure Atolls. #MNZoo

Coyotes may live in pairs or in small groups, while some chose to live a solitary life. This is true for the species in both urban and rural areas. #MNZoo

Depending on the season, the American avocet's range extends from Canada through Mexico and along the shoreline of the Eastern Seaboard. Breeding adults develop a rust-colored plumage on their heads. This coloration typically appears in February, disappearing by September. #MNZoo

Pumas are known by many common names including cougars, mountain lions, panthers, catamounts, and others. Silent and elusive, pumas are extremely rare in Minnesota. Few Minnesotans have ever seen one of these large predators in the wild. #MNZoo

Mission golden-eyed tree frogs are found in tropical rainforests and are native to Africa. They are one of a few frogs that can spend their entire lives in the tree canopy due to their preferred habitat for breeding; flooded holes in the trunk of trees. 🐸 #WorldFrogDay #MNZoo

This bird is a Luzon bleeding-heart dove, a type of ground dove that belongs to the genus Gallicolumba, which includes the five species of bleeding-heart doves. All five species are found only in the Philippines. #MNZoo
