Ok, is it me or is it really weird that @OpenSourceOrg doesn't have anybody on its board with strong ties to any of the 5 major open source foundations: @TheASF @EclipseFdn @linuxfoundation @mozila and @fsf ? https://opensource.org/docs/board-annotated …

Not sure why those are top 5, but
@mmillions is a@FSF employee (probably'd prefer not to be called "open source" foundation),@EclipseFdn ED@mmilinkov's term ended this year.@Apache's@jimjag is a board alum. Current reps from@debian@Wikimedia,@tdforg (x2)@perlfoundation1 reply 0 retweets 3 likes -

Good point on
@mmillions. So at least@fsf is represented. Still my point stands for the other 4 most influential open source foundations. Your argument that you have a few alums doesn't really address my issues (unless you keep alums as advisors)3 replies 0 retweets 0 likes -

Not speaking of OSI specifically, but what is strange is that most of the go-to "experts" and "leaders" within
#opensource now are people without any opensource development experience at all. Sure, not all contributions are code, but it's weird nonetheless.2 replies 0 retweets 3 likes -
Please do tell me more about my (and my esteemed colleagues..) lack of open source development.

As we established upthread you are definitely part of the resistance that "works from inside the OSI" :-)

Whilst flattering and genuinely appreciate the sentiment I still think that's a misleading impression/dichotomy about how one can contribute to free software.

I think this is more about understanding what OSI mission has become. The way it looks today is sort of like having an organization like IETF without a single representative of networking companies. Not impossible, I suppose, but super weird.

Previous elections had nominees from Debian, Document Foundation (LibreOffice), Eclipse, Mozilla, OpenMRS, OW2, Python, Wikimedia. Apache is no longer a member, so they would not be able to nominate, although a person with ties to ASF could run as an individual member.

Right. Which is why this is not necessarily critique of the process, but rather critique of the outcome. On the surface the process appears to be fine and yet it results in a board that seems to not fully represent key constituencies.

Well l for one have never understood why the ASF is not an affiliate. Maybe you could go fix that?
