Yes! Once again, medical errors are NOT the third leading cause of death in the US. They're not even close. That's not to say that we shouldn't be working to reduce them, but massively inflating the number helps no one.https://twitter.com/chadinabhan/status/1149286844162543617 …

You keep hearing exaggerated numbers about #medicalerrors as 3rd cause of PT death in the US. Inflated & inaccurate. @BenMazer and I try to explain it all in this paper. The hype over medical errors needs to end. Take some time and read our opinion. https://link.springer.com/epdf/10.1007/s11606-019-05156-7?author_access_token=JDSjULvfAts70zUo03n8Mfe4RwlQNchNByi7wbcMAY5MxRyVLtxqzixLCnZR4KqJh-cJBgEHgUANnlXqkpQh0gcQy2Jy1zowkfbFnimslgcxd7m570hwLSSC2as_QSHH1bIZ1B6MzQJSO0gGDs6ukA%3D%3D … pic.twitter.com/y2LhTNzVJu

yeah, but no. Until someone improves on those two numbers by doing a more rigorous study, it is just cherry -picking to deny the numbers.

Been there, done that. The numbers don't die b/c most ppl prefer simple lies to dealing w/ complex, multifaceted problems. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1955272/ …https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11466119

Oh sure. Like people jump to the upper extreme of the ranges rather than the middle. It's kneejerk thing, I suppose

Alright then. Which specific estimate of deaths due to medical error do you consider most accurate and why? @MarkHoofnagle and I will consider.

Accuracy is not a term I would use in this respect. I accept Makary & Daniel to be the most current, and to be identifying the most salient issue - that of insufficient and ineffective reporting. Mean of 251,454 with a confidence interval of 210,000-400,000

OK, if accuracy is not a term you are interested in, I have nothing further to contribute. My strengths are measurement theory, biostats, & positivistic assessment of causal effects, not metaphysics or theism. 🖖

Champion, and take your casual insults with you. If you think you can do better than Makary and deliver an estimate with higher validity and reliability, then do so. Get the data, do the analysis, and get it published in a peer-reviewed journal.
