I don't think people understand how many of us at Microsoft love GitHub to the bottom of our hearts. If anybody decided to mess with that community, there would be a riot to say the least

True but while there have been many charges painted on Microsoft over the years, outright theft has never been one of them. Now, if you are concerned GitHub will be start using incomprehensible acronyms that grate on your soul, I would say THAT is a reasonable concern.

Given that Microsoft is both a platinum member of the Linux Foundation and a contributor to the kernel and a slew of Foundation projects (Node, Open Container, R, Open API to name a few), I suspect your misremembering some key details here.
