That does not sound like a punt. Sounds like explanation that a position was taken in the past that should not be used as prediction in future because not related to specific situation, implying new situation could warrant different response.

Of course he can. If you break the law, then you must deal with the consequences. Nobody is above the law. Not a hard thing to grasp.

Is this really a "punt." It sounds more like a sidestep - and one that opens a door to the possibility that a sitting president CAN be indicted.

Of course a sitting POTUS can be indicted. Otherwise, he’d be above the law; and that ain’t happening.

This is music to my ears, because it means he can, and most probably will be indicted under the current situation. No man is above the law.

Smart to not answer. It would be foolish for Trumper to think he’s 100% safe; because we know he isn’t!

Since I am not a legal scholar I have to read the opinions of those that are. I have read those who have opinions on both sides of this issue. Certainly, there is no precedent to indict a sitting POTUS. On the other hand, from what I can tell, there is also nothing prohibiting.

A Democratic congress can impeach his ass. Then we won’t have to debate whether he can be indicted.

That's not how CBS is reporting it. The CBS Evening News said sitting President can't be indicted like it was a current decision by the Justice Department.
-
CBS doesn't determine judicial law, so I think they decided to report on what has happened to date, not to state definitive constitutional law. It's "safer" (they won't be tweeted at by an annoyed child).

He’s clearly nervous about something, otherwise, he wouldn’t be going on the defensive like this!

This means that the current DOJ can opine otherwise.
