Several Republicans say that Trump’s CIA pick will have to clarify her stance on waterboarding, explain her role in the interrogation of detainees in Thailand and destruction of tapes during Bush administration — before she’s confirmed. w/ @jeremyherbhttps://www.cnn.com/2018/03/13/politics/gina-haspel-senate-confirmation/index.html …

Bill Nelson, a D facing tough reelect, defended Haspel's actions in Thailand, saying it was "the accepted practice of the day" and it shouldn't disqualify her. "As a 30-year professional in the CIA, I have much more comfort in that than putting someone in who is a politician.”

I have no idea why these purple state Dems think rolling over on Trump nominations is going to help them even a little bit. Seriously, what is the rationale? Can anyone explain this?

I mean exactly which people—whose votes you have a snowball’s of winning in the first place—are gonna be like, “Yeah, you know, I was with him until he blocked the nomination of the torture lady.”

@SenBillNelson torture was never accepted by America. It wasn't "the accepted practice of the day" - and she knew it, or she wouldn't have destroyed evidence in attempt to hide it. If she heads the CIA, you're voting for it becoming the accepted practice. Disgusting.

Ok, but then why destroy the video evidence so that congress couldn’t see it if it was the “accepted practice of the day??????”

My Dad, who was in Germany when WWII ended, was FURIOUS about this at the time. He said the US didn’t torture, period. Not Nazis. Not anybody.

JFC. "Centrist" Dems have no spine. What do they stand for? Kidnapping and torturing folks is unequivocally bad. Obama should have prosecuted those freaks.

.@SenBillNelson You better WAKE UP, and start voting for your Constituents, you know Democrats. You have been walking on a very thin line with voting with Republicans. Wish another #Democrat would run against you. @SenateDems #DNC
