Kamala Harris: “Listen, I’m disappointed with a conversation that suggests a false choice, you either fund the government or you take care of these DACA kids,” Harris says. “We can do both.”

They're right, but there's a benefit: McConnell is now on record as supporting a full debate on DACA, and he's only got a couple of weeks to wrangle his conference on it. Suddenly Democrats have the upper hand: "Vote for DACA fix or we walk and we won't come back."
-
And CHIP is off the table as a bargaining chip.
-
Finally
#CHIP has a 6 yr reprieve which was about time IMO! UNBELIEVABLE to have used health care for kids as political bargaining chip by Republicans......no joke intended!#TrumpShutdown#TrumpBreaksDeals

They’re right. McConnell (and Trump, and Ryan) have proven over and over they can’t be trusted.
-
Leverage to get it to pass. McConnell, Ryan & Trump will be exposed as failures, dems pick up the ball, plant their feet.
-
In theory this is perfect, and my thought exactly. I don’t holdout much hope in practice, however.
-
It's the best bet available. I think this is ultimately a winning strategy for dems. Also helps 10 red state dems who needed chips.

I’m a moderate and I can see that this deal is not going to play out like Schumer thinks it will. Republicans will take a beating though if Democrats reopen the government in good faith and there’s no resolution for Dreamers.
-
And mod. GOP actually gain leverage. Dems are being smart, not trusting.

Say that McConnell actually did keep his promise. There’s no guarantee and even less of a chance that Ryan will bring DACA up for a vote.

This is the problem. Ryan and his Hastert Rule. Gotta

I am not happy either but to play the long game this was the best option. The GOP is on the record about saying they will do a deal & if they don't the 70+ percent of Americans who support DACA will vote in 2018.
-
I am holding out hope that this is how it plays out but I fear for all the Dreamers.
-
I fear for the Dreamers, too. That was not going to change today regardless. The GOP is out of step with the majority of Americans on this. I hope we can pressure enough of them to save DACA w/o caving on family reunification.
-
The GOP is allowing a small number of hateful racists to control their thoughts and governing. That is pathetic.
