I asked Justin Amash last month if he had any concerns that running as a third-party candidate could help Trump, whom he opposes. “No, I don’t worry about that. ... Because if I were to run, I’m running to win.” Asked if he’d only run if there’s a path to win: “That’s right.”

Amash knows he's done in West Michigan after speaking out against Trump, so he's got no other electoral path in the state. He's finished as a Republican. He's too young to retire, so a run for POTUS elevates his profile and name recognition. He's got nothing to lose--but we do.
