Collins’ procedural vote this AM may NOT be the same as her final vote. After she votes FOR cloture this morning, that may or may not be the same as her final vote on confirmation. Source tells me it is unknown what she will do until she makes her announcement at 3p

Susan Collins tells reporters: “I will be voting yes to proceeding to the final confirmation vote, and I will announce my intention on how I’ll vote later today.” She didn’t take questions

Why vote yes on cloture then? She’s absurd.

Cloture is technically a vote to end debate. Her opinion could in theory be that she believes she has all the information she needs to cast the final binding vote. (In theory this could go on indefinitely until cloture passes ending debate AKA a true filibuster)

But if she voted no on cloture wouldn't that bring it to a close sooner?

In practice probably. But McConnell et al could go around twisiting arms and keep this going. And there is theoretical merit in a final up-down vote on a nominee. (You know, that thing Garland never got?) But we are in McConnell's world and theoretical merit is not a thing.

No one will care that @JeffFlake and @SenatorCollins "struggled" with their conscience. They will be judged on how they vote.

Like RBG? Ginsburg wrote Sex Bias in the U.S Code Further, she declared the Mann Act as offensive & should be repealed. The Mann Act is a law which punishes persons who engage in interstate sex traffic of women& girls (98). No outrage at her views & sitting on Supreme Court?
