This letter from Grassley is a disgrace. He seems to have forgotten what the FBI's role is supposed to be in judicial nomination background checks. What did he think happened when 22 witnesses were called during the Clarence Thomas/Anita Hill portion of the judiciary hearings?

Monday isn't September 25. You would think a senators office would be more vigilante of their important correspondence.

Legal precedence for an FBI investigation, as asked by Dr. Ford, was set by President H.W. Bush re: Anita Hill/Clarence Thomas. Full Stop.
-
Yes, it was a case between two federal employees, which is a felony within the jurisdiction of the FBI. This is not. Full Stop.
-
Cite the U.S. Code provision that was grounds for federal criminal jurisdiction in the Hill case.

Here is John Yoo, who handled judicial nominations for the W. Bush administration, explaining today that it would be normal to have the FBI investigate. (Have to skip to 1:01:50.)https://www.ustream.tv/recorded/117201205 …

He's wrong. Just his opinion.

George H.W. Bush had the FBI investigate the allegations against Clarence Thomas.
-
That was a case between 2 federal employees. Not 2 high school students.

@ChuckGrassley iis never going to to the right thing....can we stop pretending here? These games are so insulting....Republicans want this Kavanaugh in and if he ate babies for breakfast, it would be fine by the GOP. This is the party that hates women, we get it already -
Republicans NEED to get Kavanaugh on the bench. It’s their “get out of jail free” card. Republicans are running for their pathetic guilty lives.

I always try to think that there is an alternative that maybe I am not seeing with a partisan bias. But no, this simply the worst opportunism imaginable and every wrong reason that can be imagined. There is nothing redeeming about this or even defensible.
