I don’t think a perpetrator of disinformation as the arbiter of what is disinformation is a recipe for natsec success ?

Worth reading the IEEPA act text which is the basis for
@POTUS "national emergency" declaration, just 50+ days before midterms ...@USTreasury https://www.treasury.gov/resource-center/sanctions/Documents/ieepa.pdf … -
this is an election clean up exercise,
@ODNIgov has 45 days after midterms, reportedly, to make an assessment. So this will not prevent an attack. It would slap any attackers on the wrist after they've attacked us, again. -
"But the executive branch, including the President, will have the final say in whether sanctions will be applies." via
@CNNPoliticshttps://www.cnn.com/2018/09/12/politics/trump-election-meddling-executive-order/index.html … -
Read the IEEPA legislation. The sanctions associated with the legislation would impact China the most based on the level of business we still do with them/ Chinese assets in the US etc. Existing sanctions regimes on Iran/Russia mitigate the impact of the new IEEPA sanctions

Here is the
@BarackObama EO - It sanctioned disinformation/ misinformation such as "tampering with, altering, or causing a misappropriation of information with the purpose or effect of interfering with or undermining election processes or institutions"https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2017/01/03/2016-31922/taking-additional-steps-to-address-the-national-emergency-with-respect-to-significant-malicious …

especially from a President who denies that the last attack happened. Perhaps Trump intends to sanction the 400 pound man sitting on his bed.
-
that would mean he sanctions his own 400 lb orange carcas :-)

It's rather misleading. Although it appears to address election interference from foreign entities, it opens the door for this administration to go after reporters, news agencies and social media orgs who they deem is "interfering"

"Insufficient" is an insufficient description of the executive order. Unacceptable is better. Trump is wholly-owned by Russia and the Russian mafia, so we shouldn't be too surprised. In the face of Russian attacks, the GOP's silence and enabling a corrupt president is damning.

Got it.
