Damn, I think they're right. Short of Mueller showing up in the next few weeks with charges so horrific that even Trump cannot survive them, I don't see a way out of this disaster.
-
Voting, and getting others to show up.
-
Voting (assuming there's a change in control of Congress) is the first step in trying to take the walk back to sanity. But it seems likely the Supreme Court will be broken beyond repair for decades no matter what. That means abortions will be illegal in 20 states in about a year.
-
You're probably right; but the GOP margin in the Senate is incredibly thin, and (as you rightly point out), Kennedy's replacement is going to matter. A lot. Does *every* Republican Senator feel comfortable about their re-election chances after 30 states criminalize abortion?
-
But the Senate map is very favorable for R's. Only 9 Rep senators are up for reelection, 26 Dems are. We'd need to win all our currently held seats + 2 more. Republicans turn out hard when a seat on the Court is in play & I'm not sure we can outnumber them.
-
Exactly so. I still am a blue wave believer, but there are so many unusual variables at play that nobody really knows what is going to happen. Certainly D’s taking Senate is harder than the House, but the Senate is what we need to babysit Trump. :/
-
AND THEY WILL CHEAT.
-
Oh, yes. They'll cheat and finagle and manipulate and push the envelope on human decency until. . . wait. Yes. That distant sonic boom you just heard was the envelope of human decency rupturing as the GOP screams through it into Malebolge I. As bad as it is, much worse is coming.

Didn't the Republicans say that during an election year all Supreme Court nominations should wait until after the election, so voters can have their say in the process? Wonder if Mitch will stick to this...

They're misreading that completely. This will also strongly motivate Democratic turnout.
-
This will galvanize the dems
-
It didn't when they stole Merrick Garland's seat.

Anthony Kennedy IS a republican. And he knew exactly what he was doing and the timing. While he is the "moderate" on this extreme right court, he was always still a conservative at the end of the day. Super disappointing.
