TIL that Icon Composer uses Garbage Collection and thus can't run on Sierra. Dammit, I was still using that, mostly for quick scaling.

Version 1.4.1 does run on Sierra (whereas 1.4: PPC only, and 2.0: GC). But it only goes up to 128x128 icons, and scaling doesn't work.

If anybody wonders why I'm still hesitant about ARC, this is why. (See also: pref panes, where GC was first mandatory, and then illegal.)

@petermaurer And Automator actions. Broke compatibility there since the same file can’t be both at once. :(0 replies 0 retweets 0 likes -
@mjtsai@petermaurer Apple essentially went back to manual retain/release runtime* and got “GC” via smarter compiler. *mostly0 replies 0 retweets 0 likes -
@mjtsai@petermaurer FTR it took quite a while before I jumped on the ARC-train as well.

@mmunz@petermaurer I have yet to do so. If one has working, tested MRR code, and Swift is the future, ARC Obj-C doesn’t seem worth it.0 replies 0 retweets 1 like
@petermaurer @mmunz Yeah, converting the C API uses seemed like a lot of trouble, with lots of opportunity to introduce bugs.
