The last time Apple released a computer with 720 vertical pixels or less was the iBook (Firewire) on September 13, 2000.
@jmfd What do you think the reason is? Cheaper panels at that resolution? Do they prefer a lower DPI?

@mjtsai I doubt they prefer a lower DPI because the previous non-retina MBPs were higher logical DPI than the Retina ones. - View other replies

@mjtsai cost makes sense, but maybe also power consumption (more pixels + more graphics perf needed)? No clue, seems like a compromise. -
@jmfd Power seems unlikely to me given the relatively small difference between 720 and 768. -
@mjtsai if they used the iPad Air's 264ppi, the resolution would be ~1343x840. I don't know how much that'd come into play. -
