@mjtsai The general principle is that "unless you own the view, leave its translatesAutoresizingMask property alone."
So it turns out that you're supposed to set translatesAutoresizingMaskIntoConstraints = NO for every view *except* window.contentView.

@mjtsai Wouldn’t it be nice if there were a “Constraints, do you dig it?” check box in Xcode and this became unnecessary.
