@mjtsai Does "purge" command help? I find it does wonders when Safari goes over the top and takes over most of VM.
I don’t understand why restarting the Mac speeds up Aperture so much when I have 4 GB of free RAM.

@mjtsai OK, no idea then. (Remembered reading somewhere about OS X issues with memory handling on multi-cpu/numa setups) -
@bnastic I’m guessing related to the system disk cache, since other heavy I/O also triggers problem. Not sure why it won’t use the free RAM. -
@mjtsai Probably. I have similar problems on a 2012 MacBook Air, but *not* on a 2011 Mac Mini with the same workload. Can't pinpoint it yet
