No matter the drive or type type, or OS version, Time Machine always seems to get into a state where it “Couldn’t create backup directory.”

@mjtsai I have the same problem any time the Time Machine drive isn't significantly bigger than main drive. Hard when your main drive is 3G.

@ClarkGoble In this case, I’m backing up 10 GB of folders onto a 64 GB drive (SD card).

@mjtsai Yup. I just have never had it work for that situation. It seems optimized for full system backups only. -
@ClarkGoble I started using Time Machine with just a few folders because it kept failing for full system backups. :-(

@mjtsai I have reduced down to a single TM backup and then using rsync with hard links for the rest.
